In addition to its use as a promotional sticker or marking & labeling stickers are also used more and more for the purpose of artistic expression. Already in the 60's in the streets of New York sticky notes by anonymous artists were found. Not to forget the famous banana sticker by Andy Warhol for Velvet Underground . More on that in our little story of the sticker. Place, meaning and aesthetics of the stickers are as diverse as the influences and motivations of the artist. The advantage is obvious . Printing or painting of stickers is quick and inexpensive even in large quantities. The sticker as sticky message can be spread rapidly without much effort. Many artists make their stickers in house. They paint or spray label paper. Others print their stickers with the help of a print shop in offset or digital printing for short runs. Sticker printing offers countless opportunities for artistic development but we also deal beyond the production with the phenomenon sticker. Two of our longer-term projects, we would like to introduce in the following.

The International Stickerawards

Since 2005 we organize and curate in collaboration with Alain Bieber (rebel: art) the International Sticker Award. The Award is a competition in which street activists from around the world can submit Sticker Art. A jury awarded the most original and interesting stickers and once a year there is an exhibition. Thus we have shown the annual submissions already in Berlin , Hamburg, Bremen & Leipzig. 2012 was held an interactive exhibition where you could discover the winner stickers in the streets of Dresden by a guided tour on your smartphone. Entries and Results of Sticker Awards have been documented in book form. 2006 "Stickers!" was published by the Gestalten Verlag and 2009 the successor "Stickers 2" was released. The books summarize a lot of the submissions and include additional interviews and texts of artists.

Klebstoff Magazin Issue 4

Klebstoff Magazine

Because the visitor can not play with the stickers at the award, we have gone a step further with our in-house magazine. Klebstoff is a magazine that document the sticker art and at the same time consists of stickers. We print the magazine in our printery on sticker sheet and with a kiss cut. Thus, all stickers can be peeled out and glued. The magazine presents 20 international artists with their works in each issue and gather between 100 and 200 stickers. Klebstoff #1 was published in 2009 in an edition of 1000 copies and was sold out after just a month. Since then, we publish a new edition every year, which we sell in our online shop.
